Farmer Founded
Heather McMonnies founded Hedge after a decade of working in specialty agriculture. Passionate about the Fifth Kingdom, she wanted to demystify culinary mushroom growing and make it as accessible as caring for houseplants and as easily understood as growing a garden tomato.
She broke new ground by creating the first-ever at-home countertop growing ecosystem designed for mushroom cultivation where, “functional food, meets functional decor”.
She is cultivating Hedge to elevate your experience with #hedgequarters, a connected community of farmers, chefs, mycologists, artists, foragers, citizen scientists, students, and anyone aspiring to grow something new, somewhere unexpected.
Mission
To demystify mushroom growing for the modern kitchen.
Vision
Hedge envisions a day when our relationship with food returns to its roots: connected, conscious, and reciprocal. A time when cultivating mushrooms at home is as natural as tending a houseplant, reminding us that nourishment begins with curiosity and shared stewardship. A meal where every ingredient carries a story of balance, inclusion, and global citizenship, and where understanding what grows beneath us deepens what grows between us.
We believe this shift won’t happen alone; it’s going to take all of us. Farmers and foragers, chefs and home cooks, students and citizen scientists, each adding one more hand, extended in community, learning from the wisdom of the Fifth Kingdom. Hedge exists to spark that reconnection by making the invisible mycelia world visible, accessible, and beautiful in everyday life.
Our vision is a hedge in #everykitchen, where growing food is an act of generosity, and abundance is shared. Less hunt. More gather.

We model a gift economy of reciprocity. Hedge pledges 1% for the Planet to be returned to natural conservation and preservation. Always.
